It's not a good idea to step into it. And, um, that's, you know, I, you know, pupils, dilating, breathing, quickens, all that stuff. Now you're watching interactions, it doesn't matter if they get to the right answer, you're seeing how person A reacts with C, how C interacts with B. They have issues, and they don't feel like this is safe, blah blah blah, and you know, I absorb that, and I told him the same thing. Can't take on. But also you're going to get to a place where you're taking responsibility for how you view those fears. Leadership Institute and Simon Sinek Inc. You know, the world wheelchair nothing, as far as we know, science has not yet discovered anything in the known universe that doesn't change over time. And we in fact get a dopamine reward when that happens. And depending on the company that you're speaking to, where in a clinical setting, for the most part, uh, psychologists have always pushed narcissism into a place where you don't want to be narcissistic. Um, you can, if you're an introvert, you can start a conversation with a stranger. So they may develop it. And he was having coffee with him just yesterday. That's the courage switch. I have concerns about this, this, this, and Id always concede on one but stay firm on the other, and then they'd have to go back, and they'd say, Well you know, and I hear the grumblings, but people could go on. And so, what I did was, and specifically, the attribute I was testing, in this case, I thought I could test amongst the other ones but was especially accountability. So test the worst and in science has actually shown that thinking through the worst and actually like feeling what the worst result is, lowers that fear innately inside of you. So, when we do, for example, we get a social media post and we get a bunch of likes, we're getting hits of the neuro-transfer immediately of serotonin. You know, for many years, we were basically going in as quiet as possible, doing are doing our job, and getting out. They begin to begin to understand exactly how to step through that particular fear, neurologically. We can't. Yeah. These drivers are attributes like resilience, grit, and adaptability. And then ask the question again to make another step. It's usually because when they talk about their family, it's because they have a family environment that keeps them that way, you know, and they always go back to that home base to keep them stable, to keep them grounded. 8:34 Primary goal: get in and get out without being visible Okay. Uh, for others guys, much more like myself, I guess it's like, Hey, there's this opportunity to have some action adventure and try to do something very few people can do it now, again, part of the job, part of the, part of what you sign up for is to go to war. And when I took over, I said, well, I think we can look at this little bit differently, because you know again, the skills to do that, some guys might have some skills, some guys might not, depends on what their background, their experience is, but we can actually look at this a little bit differently. Well, you have to fight. Our pupils start to dilate, our breathing becomes more rapid. So I often use a kind of a fantasy medieval explanation, and I say you know if you think of a of a fantasy world where there's a princess at the top of a tower guarded by a dragon and the King wants to save the Princess so he sends his knights every once a while to go try to save the Princess and slay the dragon and save the Princess and every time the knight goes and tries to slay the dragon and gets killed trying to save the Princess until the until the Navy SEAL or Special Operator shows up and the Special Operator says wait what's the mission and the King says save the Princess and Special Operator says who gives a crap about the dragon. And for all of us as adults, the absurdity and the redundancy of life, uh, gets the best of us. What is the difference between narcissism and arrogance, and which one is actually good to have in healthy amounts? Um, and so, um, in, in beginning to deconstruct the difference between attributes and skills and how these attributes are kind of elemental to our behavior, um, I said to myself, well, this is a way that we can help on people. I can't teach you patience. So I think aerobic thinking in terms of performance is a great way to think about that. Trust is vital to a teams success, but how do we actually put it into practice? I wanted to actually test attributes. The way into that if you have trouble, is a curiosity. They are always the center of attention. That's every kid on Christmas Eve. Rich Diviney: It's certainly a process and we can't, you can't do the same thing you do with the SEALs anyway, because you know, throwing a bunch of prospective accountants into the surf zone in San Diego is not going to tell you much about if they have the attributes of the great. So the, the worst happens. Some guys don't like being underwater. Speaker 4: I mean, it, I think the answer to that is everything about my training. And that's kinda what I think even subconsciously drove me to kind of think about that and then eventually kind of put it to paper and pen and, and articulate it in a way that people could understand. It is a part of the process that I'm working through. Yeah, because these attributes are the most visible and visceral, uh, experientially during times of challenge. We're going to look at how that person reacts, how that person responds. And so, a couple things. I mean, I, listen, I have, I've a couple of few, very good friends who are very successful authors. Learn about how he interviews to test character. So he sends his best nights, um, every, every day to go slay the dragon and save the princess. But I think entrepreneurs and people and innovators and iconoclasts, these are people who are coming, they think outside the normal scope of what other people think. We don't have to do this, but he's standing firm on that. Well, what that told me about this specific candidate was that he lacked accountability, he wasn't owning the decision, right? It's a term that many probably have a negative connotation to, but of course it much like narcissism can help us reach those goals we have in our lives and make a successful. That's why I'm not fulfilled is because I'm a, I'm actually a Jeep trying to run on a Ferrari track on my Ferrari, trying to run our Jeep track. And a lot of our fear is based on, on assumptions and, and predictions that are false. And I think you're going to find a lot more than you think you know, you just have to put in the work. And I think it's an entrepreneurial ship and certainly business where people talk about the idea of adopting healthy narcissism or borrowing from, from places that, that probably don't have the best social results, but personally, they can get you into doing things that maybe you wouldn't been able to do. So those athletes who showed up who were sometimes division one athletes who, from a physical standpoint might be able to make it through often were the first to quit because that training and kind of the beauty of it, I think, and probably didn't think at the time, but certainly appreciated after going through it, it didn't matter where you came from, it didn't matter what you did, didn't matter what sport you played. You see how they interact, now you're testing attributes like team ability attributes, say look at how that person is listening to everybody, is accepting, is not being arrogant, is not over talking people, is not trying to impress. How do Navy SEALS face their fears and what can you learn from how they do it? But you know, th the true narcissist you'll see, you can tell through narcissists cause they will. "I said to myself, 'I know I can be a Navy pilot.' Dopamine comes in at a bunch of different levels. Other people I know, you know, just saw me as the guy in charge. And oftentimes you're gonna drive it and steer it towards learning development and growth and growth. And you do things like Halloween where you go through a whole week and sleep for only like two hours. But it's a highly introspective process for an individual also to figure out okay, where do I sit on the attributes so that's the beauty of it. How good were you at determining when you looked around at those people who was going to make it through? Um, human beings want certainty, you know, and, and oftentimes certainty also means control. We've, we've reached that we've accomplished a goal. Rich speaks to how a person cannot self-designate themselves as a leader, but rather others must decide if they want to follow you. Um, it just makes you understand, understand the whole process more and maybe even deal with the unease more effectively. So, we always try to plan our missions in a way that we could execute without ever firing a shot. Elite teams challenge themselves to step up everyday to do the uncommon. Okay. But the other thing it does is that type of operation, that type of behavior, it actually instills more fear in the enemy because uncertainty and not knowing is the essence of fear, and if the enemy doesn't know where you're coming, doesn't know when and never sees you and you're invisible, that that causes them more fear than actually being visible and running straight up the middle. I'm on a level eight on like, I like seven out of 10 of these things. So sometimes the best might look like peak; it might look like flow states and everything's clicking and you're really, you're going full-out, everything's great. Military-Style Mindfulness. So there's ways you can do this, I usually walk organizations through this process because it's very subjective, every business and team and organization has its own list of attributes and has its own contextual environments inside of which you can see this stuff. Now there are specific circuits, uh, there specific circuits, um, uh, in conjunction with either one of those choices. That's a different category. Um, and so, and what I'll say about attributes is that attribute, we all, we all have all of the attributes, you know, the, the difference in each one of us or the levels to which we have each, right. Once you have that list it's about actually designing activities and environments inside of which you can tease that out. You can buy down fear by buying down either one of those.
